Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 egg -- beaten, slightly
1 cup corn meal
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water or milk
1 tablespoon fat or lard
1 teaspoon sugar

Mix dry ingredients, then stir in the others. Drop or pour on hot, greased
surface. Fry to a golden brown on both sides.
