Skillet Golden Corn Bread

1 cup yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup boiling water
1 Tablespoon shortening -- melted
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 Tablespoons milk
1 egg -- beaten lightly
Pour cornmeal into boiling water; add shortening, sugar and salt. Mix well.
Stir in remaining ingredients; combine well. Spread in greased 8 inch
skillet; cover; cook over low heat for 12 minutes. Serves 6-8.
