Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 "sticks")
1 egg -- slightly beaten
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips -- divided (12 oz)
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1 can sweetened -- condensed milk (not
evaporated)
1 3/4 cups english toffee bits (10 oz)
Heat oven to 350 F. Grease 13x9 inch pan. Stir together flour and brown
sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and mix
well. Add half the chocolate chips and the nuts. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of this
mixture, and press remaining crumbs into pan. Bake 10 minutes. Pour
sweetened condensed milk evenly and sprinkle reserved crumb mixture. Bake 25
to 30 minutes, or until brown. Top with remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits. Cool
completely before cutting into bars.
Notes: I baked these probably 35-40 minutes, and the center was still not
completely set. These bars require a great deal of cooling time, and were
more firm the next day. With all the butter, toffee and condensed milk,
these are chock full of fat, so arteries beware. But they are delicious!
