Chocolate Oatmeal Caramelita Bars

Title: Chocolate Oatmeal Caramelita Bars

1 1/2 c Quick oats
3/4 c Lightly-packed brown sugar
1 c All-purpose flour
Or whole wheat flour
1/2 ts Baking soda
3/4 c Golden crisco shortening;
-melted
1 1/2 c Milk chocolate chips
1/2 c Chopped walnuts
3/4 c Caramel sundae sauce
3 tb All-purpose flour
1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Grease bottom and sides
of 9 inch (2.5 L) square pan with Golden Crisco Shortening.
2. Combine oats, brown sugar, 1 cup (250 mL) flour and
baking soda in large bowl.
3. Add melted Golden Crisco Shortening. Mix well. Reserve
1/2 cup (125 mL) for topping. Press remaining crumbs firmly
in prepared pan.
4. Bake at 350F (180C) for 10 minutes.
5. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts evenly over hot crust.
6. Combine caramel sauce and 3 tbsp (45 mL) flour, stirring
until smooth. Drizzle over chips and nuts. Sprinkle
reserved crumbs on top.
7. Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer, or until golden brown. Run
knife around edge of pan before cooling for easy cutting.
Cool, cut into bars.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes. Baking Time: 35 minutes.
Makes: About 2 dozen bars. Freezing: Excellent
