Snoopy's No Bake Peanut Butter Bars

1/2 cup margarine -- softened
4 cups graham cereal -- crushed
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/4 cups peanut butter
1 tablespoon shortening
1 cup milk chocolate chips

In a large bowl mix together peanut butter and margarine; add the powdered suga
r a little at a time stirring well after each addition. Fold in cereal. Mix we
ll. With buttered fingers press this mixture into an ungreased 9 x 9 dish. In
a saucepan heat shortening over very low heat until melted. Add chocolate chip
s stirring constantly until melted. Spread chocolate mixture over the peanut b
utter mixture. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Let stand 10 minutes before cutti
ng into bars. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 2 dozen.
