Wash tomatoes, remove the stem ends, cut in half, put in a greased shallow baki
ng dish, add salt, pepper, and melted butter or other fat to season, and place
under the flame of a boiling oven, far enough from the heat to allow the tomato
es to cook before browning. Broil for 20 to 30 minutes, or until tender and li
ghtly browned. Serve hot garnish with parsley on crisp buttered toast.
