Apricot Bars

6 oz Dried apricots,; finely
-chopped
1/2 c Chopped pitted dtes
3/4 c Wter
1 1/2 c Quick cooking oats
1 c Flour
3/4 c Crushed ginergersnaps
1/2 c Sugar
1/4 c Packed brown sugar
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Ground nutmeg
3/4 Cu butter or marg

1 c Sifted powdered sugar
4 ts Milk; (4 to 5)

In a small saucepan combine apricots, dates & water. Cook over medium
heat, stirring occasionally, until bubbly. Reduce heat & continue to cook
and stir occasionally until thickened, about 5 minutes. Cool.
In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, gingersnaps, sugar, brown sugar,
baking soda & nutmeg. Cut in butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly.
Press about 3 cups mixture evenly into bottom of 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
Spread apricot mixture over crumbs. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.
Bake in a 375 oven 25 to 30 minutes or until crumbs are golden. Cool.
In a small bowl combine powdered sugar & 4 tsps milk. Add more milk
until drizzing consistency. Drizzle over cookies in pan. Cut into bars.
Makes 32 bars.
